Horses | Donavan

Donavan, the seven-year-old chestnut gelding, has arrived in California to be competed by Akiko Yamazaki, the owner of America’s top horses ridden by Steffen Peters.

The Dutch Warmblood gelding by Vivaldi was found by Jochen Arl, who also located the mare Rosamunde, and arrived in California last week to be ridden by Steffen until the end pf the month then move Akiko’s Four Winds Farm in Eoodside in Northern California.

Donavan was trained by Janine Fiechter of Belgium up to third level in what Steffen said was “a wonderful job” using “gentle aids and, most importantly, soft hands.”

“As we all know the combination of sensitivity and perfection in temperament doesn’t always come in one package,” he said. “I’m delighted how sensible Donavan goes to work every day. His attitude is exceptional. His walk and canter are wonderful. But his trot is nothing short of extraordinary.”

He will work with Donavan through the San Juan Capistrano shows at the end of March.
